Name: Uriel
School: Café Enfield
I had help from some special people. Their names are: Phyllis Mitchell the Learning Together Coordinator and Marie the Enfield High School teacher who delivers SACE at the Café Enfield site.
The hardest time for me was when: The time came for me to pull all the information together
The best time for me was: The process of interviewing Aboriginal agencies and organisations to gather information about what was working and barriers that affected Aboriginal families from accessing services.
I am employed in: the Learning Together program and have been for 5 years.
I know that I am a role model for other Aboriginal students in my family and in my community and I am encouraging other students by: Working with Aboriginal families in the Learning Together program I have opportunities to encourage and support families to undertake their SACE. I am an example that it is never too late!
Any other comments you would like to make: The way SACE is offered at Café Enfield is very supportive. It is offered to parents who had become disengaged with education at a young age, e.g. Year 8 and 9 who come to Café Enfield as young parents to become involved with various children services we offer. Their role as a parent is valued and becomes part of their SACE modules. This has huge benefits for the whole families as parents become reflective and empowered.
