Name: Eleanor

School: Kingston Community School

I had help from some special people. Their names are: Mrs Liz Wingard,  Katherine Lisk (mum), Church family, Jenny Jarvis, Mrs Kerrie-Lee Pollard, Kathleen White (Gran), Neale Lisk (Dad) Kyle Davies, my teachers, Caroline Lisk (sister), Joseph Lisk (brother), Anna Coote, Peter Bertani (Dad), Emalee Ladner.

The hardest time for me was when: I was under stress in Year 12 to get all of my work done on time. When I was told I had to repeat Year 3. When I was told the government wouldn’t fund my tutor anymore. Keeping good control over my type 1 diabetes at the same time as doing Year 12.

The best time for me was: When all my friends and family got behind me and said ‘you can do it’. When it was all over and I realised that I had achieved so much throughout my 13 years of school.

I have been able to find work and I am employed in the: Children’s Service Industry

I plan to enrol at: TAFE

I want to study: Diploma in Children’s Services

I know that I am a role model for other Aboriginal students in my family and in my community and I am encouraging other students by: Saying “all that matters is that you try your best at everything & then you are sure to go great places in life”

Any other comments you would like to make: I was very surprised when I found out that I got a 20 out of 20 for Communication in the Community for making a Children’s craft book. As I have thought I’m not bright, I won’t go places in life, but my family and friends have helped me realise that’s not the case.
