Stage 1 Learning Outcomes
At the end of the program in Stage 1 Aboriginal Studies, students
should be able to:
- demonstrate an appreciation of the interrelationship of the Dreaming,
land, people, and language;
- demonstrate understanding of the nature and diversity of Aboriginal
cultures and societies;
- understand invasion/settlement in the context of government policies;
- understand Aboriginal perspectives on contemporary issues;
- analyse issues of racism and social justice, and critically evaluate
strategies to address them;
- critically evaluate the representation of Aboriginal people and
cultures by the media and/or the arts in contemporary Australian
culture.

Stage 2 Learning Outcomes
At the end of the program in Stage 2 Aboriginal Studies, students
should be able to:
- demonstrate understanding of the points of view of Aboriginal
peoples about culture, identity, language, and relationship
to the land, including preferred futures;
- investigate and analyse the impact on Aboriginal peoples of invasion/settlement,
resistance, and continuing processes of colonisation;
- demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the diverse and dynamic
nature of contemporary Aboriginal communities;
- critically analyse, from a range of perspectives, contemporary
issues that affect Aboriginal peoples;
- critically analyse Aboriginal arts as they reflect Aboriginal
social and political experiences;
- demonstrate understanding of the effects of individual, legislative,
and institutional racism, and the ability to recognise and counter
racist arguments;
- communicate effectively in both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal
cultural contexts.
